6 Great Questions to Ask During an Interview
September 8, 2024

In a competitive market, when you land the interview, it’s crucial to make the most of it. When the hiring manager inevitably asks, ‘what questions do you have for me?’, seize the opportunity to gather more information AND leave a lasting first impression. Many candidates waste this valuable time asking surface level questions with answers that could have been found on the company’s website or with a quick Google search.
There are a multitude of great questions, but here are my top 6 that will actually help you to decide if this is the right role and company for you and what they help you understand about the role, team and culture. What other questions would you add?
- How would you describe the dynamics of the team I’d be working with?
- How your role will fit into the team.
- How they work together and what support you can expect.
- More about the team’s structure and collaboration.
- Can you share examples of projects the team has worked on & what challenges they faced?
- What type of work you will be doing.
- The teams ability to problem solve together.
- How the team adapts to change.
- Initiatives the team/company is excited about and invested in.
- What opportunities are there for professional development and career growth?
- How the company invests in it’s employees.
- What the long-term growth opportunities are.
- What are the priorities for this role in the first 90 days?
- The hiring managers immediate expectations for the role.
- What you will be working on right away.
- What support you can expect from your manager and details of the company’s onboarding process.
- What would success look like in this role, a year from now?
- What the hiring manager expects from you in your first year.
- How success will be measured.
- How the role aligns to your career objectives.
- How your role contributes to the larger department or company goals.
- What are the next steps in the interview process?
- Who else you will get to meet and if you need to prepare for additional tests or presentations.
- How long you can expect the hiring process to last so that you can manage other opportunities.
Use this time wisely. Uncover more about the opportunity, the team, the culture and demonstrate you are serious and excited about the role.
Don’t forget, interviews are a two-way street!
