Lead AI Developer

We are looking for a strong Lead AI Developer to join a global team at a leader in data science and AI innovation within the insurance industry. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in end-to-end AI product development, backend system design, and productionizing AI models. This is a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI solutions, including generative AI, while leading a talented and globally distributed team of experts.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop high-performance, low-latency AI-powered applications.
• Oversee the full lifecycle of AI product development, from ideation to production.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement best practices in software engineering (CI/CD, performance optimization, and observability).
• Lead backend development efforts for AI applications, ensuring scalability and reliability.
• Work on generative AI use cases, including template-free content extraction, risk scoring, marketing optimization, and contract intelligence tools.
• Mentor team members and manage contractors to deliver high-quality AI solutions.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in AI product development or backend software engineering.
• Expertise in Python, Java, microservices, and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure).
• Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and MLOps practices.
• Experience working with frameworks like Flask/Django.
• Hands-on experience with large language models (LLMs) and generative AI.
• Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage independent, senior-level team members.
• A startup mindset with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.

Compensation:

• Base salary: $170-200K 
• Bonus potential: 25%.
• Hybrid work arrangement (2-3 days in-office per week) with flexibility to work from offices in Hartford, CT; New York, NY; Morristown, NJ; or Axton, PA.
