Job Summary
Salesforce Platform Lead / Architect
Location: Melville, Long Island, NY — Onsite, 5 days per week
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Salesforce Platform Lead / Architect to take ownership of a complex, business-critical Salesforce environment for a growing organization. This individual will serve as the senior technical authority for the platform while remaining actively involved in architecture, development, integrations, automation, data design, and ongoing platform improvement.
This opportunity goes well beyond traditional Salesforce administration. The organization is looking for someone who can evaluate the existing environment, establish stronger technical and operational standards, and evolve Salesforce into a scalable enterprise platform capable of supporting increasingly complex business processes.
The successful candidate will combine deep Salesforce engineering expertise with strong business acumen. They should be equally comfortable developing in Apex, designing an integration strategy, evaluating technical debt, and meeting with senior business stakeholders to determine how Salesforce should support a particular workflow.
Initially, this person will be highly hands-on and will work across both strategic and tactical priorities. As the Salesforce function grows, they will also have the opportunity to help shape the team structure, establish development and governance practices, and provide technical leadership to future internal and external resources.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Architecture & Technical Leadership
-
Take primary technical ownership of the Salesforce platform and establish a scalable architecture that supports current and future business requirements.
-
Evaluate the existing Salesforce environment and identify opportunities to simplify architecture, address technical debt, improve performance, and increase maintainability.
-
Design solutions for complex workflows spanning sales, operational, financial, customer-facing, and back-office functions.
-
Develop and enhance Salesforce functionality using Apex, Lightning Web Components, Flow, SOQL, APIs, validation logic, and other native platform capabilities.
-
Design and maintain Salesforce objects, relationships, fields, automation frameworks, security structures, permission sets, sharing models, and data architecture.
-
Establish technical standards that allow the platform to scale without accumulating unnecessary customization or complexity.
-
Make informed decisions regarding when requirements should be addressed through native configuration, custom development, integration, or changes to the underlying business process.
Development, Integration & Deployment
-
Lead both declarative and programmatic Salesforce development based on the complexity and long-term requirements of each solution.
-
Architect and maintain integrations between Salesforce and other enterprise applications, data platforms, middleware, financial systems, document-processing solutions, marketing technology, and third-party services.
-
Develop and support REST/SOAP API integrations and other system-to-system data exchanges.
-
Improve development lifecycle practices across sandbox management, source control, testing, deployment, release scheduling, and production support.
-
Establish appropriate QA and change-control processes to reduce production risk while maintaining the ability to deliver enhancements efficiently.
-
Troubleshoot complex platform, automation, integration, data, and performance issues.
-
Maintain clear technical documentation covering architecture, integrations, automation, system dependencies, development standards, and support processes.
Business Systems Partnership
-
Work directly with stakeholders across sales, operations, finance, technology, marketing, and other business functions to understand requirements and identify appropriate Salesforce solutions.
-
Translate business problems into technical designs that are practical, scalable, and aligned with the broader platform strategy.
-
Examine existing Salesforce-supported processes and identify opportunities to reduce manual activity, eliminate redundant steps, improve data quality, and increase visibility.
-
Act as the primary Salesforce subject-matter expert for technical strategy, solution design, platform limitations, prioritization, and troubleshooting.
-
Clearly communicate technical decisions, dependencies, risks, effort, and tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical audiences.
-
Contribute to broader transformation initiatives involving enterprise data, analytics, workflow automation, system integrations, and emerging AI capabilities.
Platform Governance & Optimization
-
Establish a structured approach for managing Salesforce enhancement requests, technical priorities, development standards, testing, releases, documentation, and platform changes.
-
Build and maintain a Salesforce technology roadmap aligned with organizational priorities and anticipated growth.
-
Implement appropriate controls for permissions, access management, data integrity, duplicate prevention, system changes, and integration monitoring.
-
Develop mechanisms for identifying platform issues such as failed integrations, workflow exceptions, outdated records, poor adoption, performance constraints, and data-quality problems.
-
Introduce stronger standards around platform documentation, development practices, architecture decisions, and change management.
-
Ensure Salesforce evolves as a cohesive enterprise platform rather than through disconnected customizations and one-off solutions.
Team & Partner Leadership
-
Help determine the appropriate long-term Salesforce team structure based on platform complexity and organizational needs.
-
Provide technical direction to Salesforce administrators, developers, analysts, contractors, and consulting partners.
-
Participate in the hiring and development of additional Salesforce resources as the internal function expands.
-
Mentor less-experienced technical team members and establish consistent engineering and platform-management practices.
-
Oversee third-party Salesforce partners when necessary, including technical review, delivery quality, knowledge transfer, and adherence to internal standards.
-
Reduce long-term dependency on external resources by developing strong internal platform knowledge and documentation.
Required Qualifications
-
7+ years of professional Salesforce experience with substantial responsibility for development, architecture, and platform design.
-
Advanced hands-on Salesforce development experience, including Apex, Lightning Web Components (LWC), Flow, SOQL, APIs, integrations, and data modeling.
-
Demonstrated experience taking technical ownership of a Salesforce environment within a complex corporate or enterprise organization.
-
Strong knowledge of Salesforce security architecture, including roles, profiles, permission sets, sharing rules, and access controls.
-
Experience designing and supporting integrations between Salesforce and external enterprise applications or data platforms.
-
Strong understanding of Salesforce development lifecycle practices, including sandbox strategy, testing, source control, deployment, and release management.
-
Experience assessing and addressing technical debt, platform performance, scalability, data quality, and architectural complexity.
-
Ability to remain deeply technical and hands-on while simultaneously serving as a trusted partner to business stakeholders.
-
Experience working across multiple functional groups and translating business requirements into technical solutions.
-
Experience providing leadership to Salesforce developers, administrators, analysts, consultants, or other technical resources.
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
-
Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced organization where priorities and business requirements may evolve quickly.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Salesforce certifications such as Platform Developer I/II, Administrator, Advanced Administrator, Platform App Builder, Application Architect, System Architect, or Technical Architect.
-
Experience within financial services, commercial finance, lending, leasing, fintech, banking, or another transaction-intensive environment.
-
Experience integrating Salesforce with financial or operational platforms, middleware, data warehouses, marketing systems, document-processing/OCR solutions, or external data providers.
-
Experience with MuleSoft or comparable middleware/integration technologies.
-
Exposure to Salesforce products such as Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Experience Cloud, Financial Services Cloud, CRM Analytics, or Account Engagement.
-
Experience implementing formal Salesforce governance, release-management frameworks, development standards, and platform operating models.
-
Experience helping an organization transition from a heavily reactive Salesforce support model toward a structured internal platform function.
